METHOD FOR CLEANING FILTER MEMBRANE, AND MEMBRANE FILTER

Provided is a method for cleaning a hydrophobic filter membrane which was used for filtering raw water containing jelly suspended components, such as seawater, wastewater, or ballast water, and which has been clogged with the suspended matter that was contained in the raw water, characterized by bringing the filter membrane into contact with limonene-containing water or by backwashing the filter membrane with a cleaning fluid and then either applying an air-containing flow to the surface of the filter membrane or jetting a water flow from an eductor nozzle against the filter membrane. The method for cleaning a hydrophobic filter membrane is highly effective in recovering the treatment rate (or filtration pressure). Even when water passing and cleaning by the cleaning method are repeated, the filtration pressure does not tend to increase. A membrane filter is also provided with which it is possible to efficiently implement this cleaning method.
