<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a columnar member which is used for shelves or the like, is cost-effective, is reduced in weight to facilitate its transfer and shelf-assembling operation. <P>SOLUTION: Gutters 3 and 4 rectangular in their cross section and extending in a longitudinal direction, are formed in a parallel manner in the roughly center of one side of the outside and in the roughly center of another adjacent side of a columnar member body 1 made of a relatively light-weighted material. The columnar member body 1 is sandwiched between folded section 7 and 8 having L-shaped cross sections and formed at both ends.
