The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a rolling bearing, which can be used in applications wherein the DN value is not less than 1,500,000 and the service temperature is not less than 200°C, and which can assure a sufficient operation time without seizure even if used in a dry run state; and a retainer which is used for the rolling bearing. A retainer (1) is obtained by molding a carbon fiber composite material that is obtained by reinforcing a polymer compound serving as a matrix with a carbon fiber material. The carbon fiber material is composed of a fiber bundle of 1,000-5,000 monofilaments or a woven fabric or unidirectional material using the fiber bundle. The polymer compound is a polyimide resin that has a glass transition temperature of not less than 200°C after curing, or the like.
