The device has a diaphragm (120) defining an aperture and including closed and open positions. Light sources (116) e.g. LEDs, a near infrared spectrometer (10) and a UV/visible spectrometer (113) are arranged on a side of the diaphragm. The spectrometers are optically coupled with the aperture. The diaphragm is brought into the closed position for referencing the light source arrangement and for measuring light reaching the spectrometers and into the open position for measuring a sample (122). The sample is arranged on another side of the diaphragm. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a measuring device (2) a method for controlling a measuring device.
