Provided is a solid oxide fuel cell with which it is possible to improve overall energy efficiency while operating in a stable manner, maintaining thermal self-reliance. To solve these problems, the present invention provides a solid oxide fuel cell (1) comprising: a fuel cell module (2); a fuel supply means (38); an ignition unit (18) which ignites and heats residual fuel; a heat storage material (7); a power consumption detection means (126); a temperature detection means (142); and a control means (110) for controlling the fuel supply means such that fuel use efficiency is increased when power generation is high and decreased when power generation is low, as well as for changing power output following fuel supply quantity. The control means further comprises a heat storage quantity estimation means (110b) for estimating a heat storage quantity on the basis of a detected temperature. When it is estimated that a usable quantity of heat has been stored in the heat storage material, the quantity of fuel supplied is reduced such that fuel use efficiency increases for a given level of power generation. |
