In a device for lifting and lowering horizontal coke oven lids 23 by means of an electromagnet 19 which is rotatable about a vertical axis, the magnet 19 and an associated gear 20 are mounted on an extension 16a of a hanger bearing 16 which is suspended from a frame 15 by universally movable arms 17 of equal length. The magnet is rotated by a worm gear 20 operated through a shaft 22 driven by an electric motor 21, and the frame 15 is lifted and lowered through sleeves 41, 31 by a lever 13 pivoted at 14 to a carry 10 mounted to one side of a charging hopper 28. The sleeve 31 is resiliently secured to the sleeve 41, see Fig. 3 (not shown), and both can move axially in a fixed tube 12 attached to the carry 10. The sleeve 41 is rotatable in the tube 12 to swing the cover 23 away from and towards the charging hole 24, and carries a cross-member (38), the ends of which move in slots (40a ... 40c) in the tube 12, the portion (40b) being horizontal. The top of the sleeve 41 is connected through a thread (43) of coarse pitch to a nut (44) which is axially and non-rotatably movable in the tube 12, and is joined to the lever 13. On raising and lowering the sleeve 41, the weight of attached parts 15... 23 causes rotation of the sleeve 41 in the nut (44) when the member (38) comes opposite the slot portion (40b). |
