[Also in Division A4] An assembly for securing together juxtaposed marginal parts of elements 1, 2 formed of sheet material comprises a stirrup 3, the limbs of which, in use, straddle the said parts, and a resiliently deformable clip, the stirrup including an abutment, the clip in use acting between the abutment and an abutment of one of said parts. In its simplest form Fig. 14 the stirrup has the abutment formed by a lip 15 and it is used with sheet metal elements each of which has a flange with a lip extending from it with the lips interengaging and the clip which is a substantially U shaped member made of wire is disposed diagonally of the stirrup as shown the lip of the element 2 acting as said abutment. In a modification the stirrup is wider and each of its limbs has a lip, the flanges of the two sheet metal elements with which it is used point in opposite directions and two clips are used one for each sheet metal element. In an alternative form Fig. 10 the stirrup has two channels pointing in opposite directions a sheet metal clip being used as shown. A further form of stirrup, Fig. 2 has three channels and is used with two clips as shown. This form can be used by welding the stirrup to one of the sheet metal elements and eliminating one of the clips. A third flanged sheet metal element can be fastened to the other two by having its flanged portion disposed in one of the outer channels of the stirrup so that it is held by the clip. |
