[Also in Division B2] A knife has its cutting edge blasted with aluminium oxide grains in the size range # 24 to #80 grit based on U.S. Standard Sieves. In an example, a slitting knife is formed from annealed hot rolled steel, heat treated and quenched. The edge of the blade is sharpened to a 60 degree inclined-angle bevel and the extreme peripheral edge slightly rounded by honing. Several of the knives are mounted on a driven mandrel and slowly rotated whilst aluminium oxide of # 50 grit size is projected from an oscillating nozzle at an air pressure of 7 kg. cm<SP>2</SP>., the nozzle being aimed at the edges of the knives and toward the axis. |
