Lead plating of metal sheets is done by passing the sheets at an oblique angle relative to horizontal into and through a flux covered bath, leading it through a slot in the side wall of the metal bath container. It then enters a die chamber with a small lead bath interconnected with the main bath and passes through a die, which determines the thickness of the lead layer on the sheet, followed by passage above a cooling spray. Pref. a thin non-wettable metal strip is passed between the side of the sheet being coated and the die to prevent adhesion and damage of the lead surface layer produced by inner die surface.
|
