[Also in Division C2] Isobutyraldehyde - 2 - trimethylsilyl - ferrocenyl-methylimine is prepared by dissolving N- (2 - trimethylsilyl - ferrocenylmethyl) - N,N- dimethyl - ammonium iodide in a mixture of glycoldimethyl ether and water and then adding sodium azide, extracting trimethylsilyl-ferrocenyl methyl azide therefrom and dissolving the azide in glycolamino methyl ester to which is added stannous chloride, extracting 2-trimethylsilyl - ferrocenyl - methylamine therefrom and dissolving it in methylene chloride to which is added isobutyraldehyde and extracting the isobutyraldehyde - 2 - trimethylsilyl ferrocenyl therefrom. The two diastereomers of N-benzoyl-N-2 trimethylsilyl - ferrocenyl methyl valine N<SP>1</SP>- tert butylamide of the formula are prepared by reacting the above isobutyraldehyde derivative with benzoic acid dissolved in methylene chloride and tert-butylisonitrile.
