In a method of assembling an electric motor comprising a mounting block 1, a rotor 5 mounted to rotate relative to the mounting block and a stator 6 secured to the block 1, a purely axial compressive force is applied to the stator as it is secured to the block. When the rotor is mounted on a shaft 4 an assembly can 10 is held thereover to determine the necessary air gap. The stator is aligned on the can 10 and bolts 8 are started in their threads, but not tightened. The axial compressive force is applied by four clamps 11 which are connected to air rams 12. When the pressure is applied bolt runners are activated to screw home the bolts to a predetermined torque value. |
