Fibres are dispersed randomly in a thermoplastic resin by (a) melting the thermoplastic resin by intensive mechanical work, (b) adding fibres with a length of 1.6-13 mm to the molten resin, and (C) incorporating the fibres in the resin by intensive mechanical work amounting to 3.3-10 Hp-min/kg. fibres and thermoplastic resin. Used for prodn. of glass fibre reinforced thermoplastic resins concentrates for use in the prodn. of mouldings, sheets, rods, tubes and similar products. The fibres are incorporated in the resin with a minimum of breakage, to give concentrates with a random fibre distribution and good bonding between the fibres and resin. The concentrates have uniform properties and a high strength.
|
