1297306 Naphthyl - propanals and intermediates therefor SYNTEX CORP 10 March 1970 [9 Oct 1969] 11483/70 Heading C2C Novel d-compounds III: where R is Me, Et, iso-Pr, cyclopropyl, CF 3 , F, Cl, vinyl, ethynyl, MeO, MeS, methoxy-methoxy, methoxymethylthio, difluoromethoxy or difluoromethylthio, are made by oxidizing compounds II (prepared from corresponding propionic acids) or by reducing compounds I (prepared by α-methylation of corresponding acetic acids usually in the methyl ester form; the acetic acids are prepared by reacting 2-acetyl-6- R-substituted naphthalenes with a morpholinesulphur mixture followed by treatment with HC1 and neutralization with, e.g. sodium hydroxide). The following starting materials and intermediates are also described and exemplified:-2 - acetyl - 6 - methoxy - naphthalene, methyl - 2 - (6 - methoxy - 2 - naphthyl)- propionate and a cinchonidine salt with 2-(6- methoxy-2-naphthyl) propionic acid {treatment with hydrochloric acid affords d-2-(6-methoxy-2- naphthyl) propionic acid which yields l-2-(6- methoxy-2-naphthyl)-1 -propanol upon reduction with lithium aluminium hydride}. Pharmaceutical preparations suitable for treating inflammation contain III as active ingredient; they also show analgesic and anti-pyretic action. Administration is usually orally. |
