[Also in Division C2] Octatriene-1,3,7 is obtained as by-product in the preparation of 1-alkoxyoctadienes -2,7 by reacting butadiene with a considerable excess of primary or secondary alcohol in the presence of a catalyst prepared from a Pd (II) salt, a base in quantity at least equivalent to the salt, and a tertiary phosphine or phosphite in a molar ratio to Pd in the range 3:1 to 1:1. |
