The invention comprises fibre-reactive 1: 2- chromium complex compounds containing one atom of chromium complexed with a mono azo dye molecule and a disazo dye molecule containing the grouping wherein n is 1 or 2, the complex containing 1 or more fibre reactive groups (i.e. groups which react with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose or the amino groups of polyamides to form a covalentlink). The monoazo dyes preferably have the formula R 1 -N = N-R 2 , where R 1 is an aryl radical having a metallizable group vicinal to the azo bridge, e.g. hydroxybenzene or hydroxynaphthalene and R 2 is the residue of a coupling component coupling vicinal to an hydroxyl, keto or amino group, e.g. hydroxynaphthalene sulphonic acid, an acetoacetylarylide or a 5- pyrazolone linked in the 4-position and the disazo dyes preferably have the general formula wherein n is 1 or 2, R 3 is a benzene residue, e.g. chloro- or nitro-benzene, having OH or COOH ortho to the azo bridge, and R 4 is the residue of a coupling component coupling vicinal to an hydroxyl, keto or amino group, e.g. a 5-pyrazolone bound in the 4-position or hydroxynaphthalene. They are prepared by (i) reacting the corresponding 1: 2 chromin complex which contains an amino group with an acylating agent which contains a fibre reactive group, (ii) reacting a 1: 1 monoazo dye chromium complex with an acylating agent containing a fibre reactive group and then with a disazo dye or (iii) by dehydrohalogenation of 1: 2 chromin complexes containing at least one acid group and a dibromopropionylamino group to form the α-bromoacryl group. The fibre reactive group may be aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic and many are specified. The dyes give grey, green, brown, violet and black shades on wool, silk, leather, superpolyamide and polyurethane, and cotton, viscose and linen. |
