1,193,169. Disc brakes; brake cylinders. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 11 Dec., 1967 [7 March, 1967], No. 56206/67. Headings F2E and F2F. To prevent the leading edge of a piston 2 from damaging the cylinder bore when heavy braking torque on a disc 4 tends to twist the piston from its axis, the end portions of the bore and piston are of enlarged and reduced diameter respectively, the sealing ring 9 being positioned never to communicate with the enlarged portion of the cylinder, and the step (14a, Fig. 2, not shown) between the two piston portions always lying in the enlarged cylinder portion for all positions of the piston. The sealing ring may be mounted in the cylinder, or on the piston (Fig. 3, not shown); and the length of the bore (a) between the ring and the enlarged portion is of the same order of size as the difference (D-d) in the diameters. The piston is chromium plated, and the cylinder cadmium plated. |
