PURPOSE: A method for building a large ship in a small building area using a submerged cofferdam is provided to enhance the competitiveness of a small building area by extending the size limit of a ship which can be built in the small building area. CONSTITUTION: A method for building a large ship in a small building place is as follows. A ship is divided into a large-weight hull(A) with a large volume and a mobile hull(B) which is maneuvered by an engine room and a screw drive, and the hulls are separately assigned and built in one or more building places. The mobile hull is moved to the building area where the other hull exists. A submerged cofferdam is fixed to the hulls by underwater welding in order to secure a work place for welding a coupling line between the hulls. Once seawater is discharged from the cofferdam and the hulls and the insides of the cofferdam and the hulls are dry, the hulls are assembled by welding the interior of the hulls withing the cofferdam.
