<p>Complexes are produced by polymerising a mono- or oligosaccharide, with or without acidic catalysis, to a mixture of polymers of different mol.wt., heating the mixture with aqs. alkali and separating into two or more fractions according to mol. wt., selecting from these fractions a polysaccharide with a specified mol. wt. range, and reacting this with a water-soluble inorganic iron cpd. to give a non-toxic complex. The complex is effective in the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia and, due to the elimination of polysaccharides of unsuitable mol. wt., has less side-effects on injection than known compns. of this kind.</p> |
