[Also in Division D1] An apparatus for washing, rinsing and drying laundry comprises a reticulate basket 1 rotatably mounted in a casing 2 and a valve controlled drain 8 which is in communication with the casing via a large port 6 and small drain opening 11 so that when the apparatus changes over from a washing or rinsing speed to an extracting speed the liquid drains quickly through the port 6 and opening 11 from the casing and then more slowly through opening 11 so that sufficient water is present in the casing for a period of time sufficient to permit a substantially uniform load distribution for spin drying without excessively retarding the acceleration and without causing buffeting of the casing. The port 6 and opening 11 may be varied in size. During the washing step the direction of rotation of the basket alternates. |
