Disclosed are compounds of formula I, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and methods for their preparation. Specific examples of compounds of formula I include: (2-{ 4-[3-(1H-Benzoimidazol-2-yl)-4-chloro-phenyl]-piperazin-l-yl} -ethyl)-dimethyl-amine, 4-[3-(1H-Benzoimidazol-2-yl)-phenyl]-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester, { 4-[3-(1-Methyl-1H-benzoimidazol-2-yl)-phenyl)piperazin-l-yl} -(4-methyl-morpholin-3-yl)-methanone, and { 4-[3-(1H-Benzoimidazol-2-yl)-4-chloro-phenyl][1,4]diazepan-1-yl} -(1-methyl-piperidin-3-yl-methanone. Also disclosed is the use of compounds of formula I for treating osteoporosis and cancer, where the cancer is selected from non-small cell lung carcinoma, small-cell lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian tumours, digestive tract tumours, brain cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, basal cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, squamous cell carcinomas, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, mesenchymal cancers,chronic myeloid leukaemia, endometrial carcinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
