A horizontally mounted shelf assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises an elongated support rail (4), at least one accessory (8) and at least one stretch adhesive strip (16). The at least one accessory (8) is movably connected with the support rail (4). The at least one accessory (8) includes a front retaining wall portion (8a), a shoulder portion (8b), and a rear retaining wall portion (8c) arranged to define an elongated channel (20) . The elongated channel (20) facilitates the at least one accessory (8) to be mounted in sliding arrangement with the support rail (4). The distance between the front retaining wall portion (8a) and the rear retaining wall portion (8c) increases in the direction away from the shoulder portion (8b). The stretch releasing adhesive strip (16) is arranged between the support rail (4) and the wall (18) for securing the shelf assembly to the wall (18). The elongate support rail (4) includes a body portion (4a) and pair of leg portions (4b) respectively extending at an angle from the opposite ends of the body portion (4a), thereby to space the body (4a) from the wall (18) when the shelf assembly is mounted on the wall (18).
