Disclosed in the crystal structure of the marcrophage specific receptor (CRIg) having the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 2. Also disclosed is the crystal structures of CRIg in complex with the C3b and C3c subunits of the complement C3 protein. The crystal structures are used to identify CRIg agonists that mimics the C3b binding.
