Disclosed are single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the bovine genes encoding leptin, corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) and their association with the economically relevant traits of dairy form and productive life. The SNPs are used in methods and systems, including computer-assisted processes, for identifying bovine animals having a longer productive life and for tracking the productive life of a bovine animal.
