The support (2) has a reinforcement extending from a median portion of a cradle (22) to a zone that is located above the cradle and is remote from a main axis (12) of the cradle, where the reinforcement is formed of a telescopic mast (24) and arms (46). The telescopic mast is movable along a vertical direction with respect to the cradle. A control unit (60) independently controls vertical and radial displacements of the telescopic mast with respect to the cradle. The arms are movable with respect to the cradle along respective directions radial to the axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for supporting a raw blank of a tire of a civil engineering machine.
