<p>Disclosed is a process for producing a compound according to formula (I) such as (2S,4S)-5-biphenyl-4-yl-4-amino-2-methyIpentanoic acid, or salt thereof; wherein R1 and R1' independently are hydrogen or an amine protecting group; and R2 is a carboxyl group or an ester group; said process comprises reacting a compound according to formula (II) or salt thereof, with hydrogen in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a chiral ligand, wherein the transition metal is selected from group 7, 8 or 9 of the periodic table. Further disclosed is the use of catalysts in said process, and particularly wherein said catalyst incorporates rhodium or ruthenium, and a chiral phosphine ligand such as a Mandyphos ligand ((aS, aS)-2,2'-bis(a-N,N-dimethylaminophenylmethyl)-(R,R)-1,1'-bis[di(3,5-dimethyl-4-methoxyphenyl)phosphine]ferrocene), a Walphos ligand, a Josiphos ligand or a Solphos ligand.</p> |
