Disclosed is a compound of formula (I) where R1 is either a radical of formula (II) or (III). Examples of compound of formula (I) are: (+) 7-((2,4-trans-2,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)azetidin-1-yl)methyl)-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one; (-) 7-((2,4-trans-2,4-bis(hydroxymethyl)azetidin-1-yl)methyl)-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one and 7-((3,3-bis(hydroxymethyl)azetidin-1-yl)methyl)-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one. Also disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (I) and a method of preventing a diseases or condition in which it is desirable to inhibit PNP, MTAP or MTAN comprising administering to a non-human an effective about of a compound of formula (I) and the use of a compound of formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for treating diseases such as cancer, lupus or arthritis.
