Disclosed is a process for preparing a compound of formula I (i.e., 5-fluoro-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-3-amine) comprising the step of synthesising a compound of formula 5 and combining said compound with a compound of formula 6, wherein the substituents are as described within the specification. Also disclosed is a process for preparing a compound of formula 5, and the compounds of formula I and formula 5 when prepared by said processes.
