The method involves creating a negative pressure environment in an opening (511) of a dressing unit (50) of a wound treating system and a positive pressure environment in a collection bag of the system. A positive pressure detection procedure and a negative pressure detection procedure are conducted in the positive pressure environment and the negative pressure environment, respectively. Detection results are sent to determine whether an operation mode is stopped. An independent claim is also included for a system for treating a wound by negative pressure.
