<p>Provided is an object detector that accurately estimates the displacement of a reflection point of an electromagnetic wave irradiated by a radar when the position of the reflection point on an oncoming vehicle moves, and which is capable of using that displacement to determine the possibility of a collision. An object detector installed in an automobile is provided with: a relative position detecting means which by irradiating an object in front of the vehicle with electromagnetic waves, and receiving a reflection wave reflected from said object detects the relative position between the electromagnetic reflection point on the object reflecting the electromagnetic wave and the automobile itself; and a displacement estimation means which is capable of estimating with a continuous value the displacement of the electromagnetic wave reflection point [on the object , from a given time until the object approaches the vicinity of the automobile], on the basis of the electromagnetic wave reflection point and the relative position of the automobile.</p> |
