The present invention relates to a formed catalyst body comprising a core and a first catalytically active layer located on regions of the core, wherein the overall thickness of the core is greater than the overall thickness of the catalytically active layer. The invention further relates to use of such a formed catalyst body as an oxidation catalyst in the cleaning of exhaust gases or for reducing and decomposing nitrogen oxides and nitrous oxide.
