<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CBN insert which can exhibit excellent wear resistance while maintaining excellent finished-surface accuracy, over a long period of use. <P>SOLUTION: In the CBN insert with grooves and coating formed on a flank thereof, (a) the shape of the groove after coating has a groove width W1 of 1-25 μm, a terrace width W2 of 3-25 μm, and a height H of 1.5-15 μm from the surface to the lowest position of the groove, when a cross-sectional surface including groove concavities and convexities is seen, and is a shape consisting of two cycles when the combination of a terrace and a groove is assumed to be one cycle; (b) the area in the flank with the grooves formed therein covers a range in 5-300 μm on the flank side from the intersection line of a chamfer honing surface and the flank; and (c) the groove-forming direction is in a range of angle θ satisfying -10°≤θ≤10° wherein θ is the angle (in the direction opposite to a cutting edge tip) formed by a line parallel to a cutting edge ridge line and the groove forming direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
