PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in image quality due to a change of a dither pattern in skew correction in an optical writing device.

SOLUTION: In the optical writing device that forms an electrostatic latent image by exposing a photoreceptor in a period corresponding to N-fold resolution that is an integral multiple of resolution in a sub-scanning direction of pixel information of an image to be output, information of pixels constituting the image is acquired and stored according to a plurality of lines for each main scanning line, and a value of positional shift in the sub-scanning direction in accordance with the position in a main scanning direction of the light source device is acquired, then a counted value of a sub-line period being a period corresponding to the N-fold resolution is acquired from a counter that counts the sub-line period. On the basis of a value calculated by subtracting the value of positional shift from the counted value of the sub-line period, the main scanning line different according to the position in the main scanning direction is selected as the main scanning line from which the pixel information is read out.
