This charging device is provided with a charge controller (14) that inputs the voltage across the ends of a shunt resistor (13) in synchrony with a switching element (12) turning on, and that, on the basis of the input voltage across the ends of the shunt resistor (13), sets the on time that the switching element (12) is on, thus controlling the charging current of a secondary battery (11). The resistance value of the shunt resistor (13) is set in a manner so as to be at least the value resulting from dividing the minimum resolution of the A/D conversion voltage when converting to a digital voltage the analog voltage that the charge controller (14) input by the minimum detectable value of charging current of the secondary battery (11).
