<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a masking sound generation device that generates a masking sound for masking surrounding sounds without giving uncomfortable feeling to a third person. <P>SOLUTION: In the masking sound generation device 1 for generating a masking sound for masking surrounding sounds including a sound of a speaking person, a signal processing unit 7 extracts a spectrum of the surrounding sound collected by a microphone 5A. The signal processing unit 7 makes spectrum subtraction between the spectrum of the surrounding sound and a spectrum of an environmental sound stored in a storage unit 3 for calculating a spectrum of the masking sound.
