PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing system that enables users in a vehicle to know an operation state of content information stored in each portable terminal.

SOLUTION: An on-vehicle unit (10-1) includes: a database (100) for managing portable terminals (30-1 to 30-8) connected to the on-vehicle unit (10-1); a content control section (112) for controlling content information stored in the portable terminals (30-1 to 30-8) managed in the database (100); a data management section (111) for managing operation states of the content information controlled by the content control section (112) in association with the portable terminals (30-1 to 30-8) in the database (100); an output control section (113) for outputting the operation states of the content information to the portable terminals (30-1 to 30-8) storing the content information; and a display control section (114) for displaying the operation states of the content information in the portable terminals (30-1 to 30-8) on a display section (12).
