A night-vision apparatus (1) of the present invention is provided with an objective-lens mechanism (4), a photomultiplier (2), an ocular mechanism (5), a power supply (3), and housings (7a, 7b). The objective-lens mechanism (4) receives incident light. The photomultiplier (2) amplifies the incident light, and generates a visible output image. The ocular mechanism (5) outputs the visible output image coming from the photomultiplier (2). The power supply (3) supplies power to the photomultiplier (2). The housings (7a, 7b) arrange therein the objective-lens mechanism (4), the photomultiplier (2), the ocular mechanism (5), and the power supply (3). The photomultiplier (2) is provided with an amplification control unit (2b) that inhibits the amplifying function of the photomultiplier (2) when excessive light is detected. Thus, with this night vision apparatus, damages to and deterioration of the photomultiplier has been enabled to be prevented.
