PURPOSE: An engine having variable valve device is provided to steadily control a movement of a valve because a movement of a swing arm is precisely controlled by a slave piston. CONSTITUTION: An engine(100) having variable valve device comprises a HLA(Hydraulic Lash Adjuster), a valve(130), and a driving unit. The hydraulic gap adjusting unit comprises a housing(185), a slave piston(180), a master piston(140), and a lost motion oil control valve(150). The slave piston is inserted into the inner side of an insertion hole. One end part of the master piston is inserted into the insertion hole at a set distance. The other end part of the master piston is arranged to be reciprocated toward a longitudinal direction in the state of being taken out. The lost motion oil control valve opens and closes a path connected to a master chamber(145) between the master and slave pistons.
