<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic reader that directly reads the information of an article attached with an IC tag which is stored in a multi-story warehouse or multi-level storage warehouse such as an existing high-rise warehouse or an automated warehouse, and an automatic reading system using a forklift. <P>SOLUTION: The automatic reader 20 which reads the information of RF tags 41 and 42 of an article stored in a warehouse 40 and collects these pieces of information, has a base plate having a space into which a fork 15 of the forklift 10 is inserted, a specified number of RF tag reading antennas 23 which are arranged in a direction crossing the direction of the framework space formed at the base plate into which the fork 15 is inserted, at a specified interval at least in the height direction, and a controller 24 which has a means for sending information acquired by the antennas 23.
