PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for volume hologram layer formation with which a volume hologram layer with a superior foil cutting property is formed.

SOLUTION: The composition for volume hologram layer formation contains a cation polymerizable compound having a cation polymerizable functional group and a radical polymerizable compound having a radical polymerizable functional group, and is used to form the volume hologram layer having a volume hologram recorded, and is characterized in decreasing breaking strength of the volume hologram layer and in containing the cation polymerizable compound having the cation polymerizable functional group.
