<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which achieves reduction of cost by preventing a ribbon from being wastefully used when using a monochrome or monotonous ribbon having no boundary. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal printer for performing thermal transfer using the monochrome or monotonous ribbon Pb2 having no boundary includes: a printing information holding part 61 which holds information on printing areas Ar1 and Ar2 where printing is needed; and a control means 6 which performs control, on the basis of the information held by the printing information holding part 61, to perform printing operation in a head-down state in lines (lines present in X2 to X3 and in X4 to X5) where the printing areas Ar1 and Ar2 are present in a main scanning direction being a direction orthogonal to the conveying direction of a recording medium Pa, and to convey only the recording medium Pa in a sub scanning direction in a head-up state where the ribbon Pb2 is separated from the recording medium Pa in a line (line present between X3 and X4) where the printing areas Ar1 and Ar2 are not present in the main scanning direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
