摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-lubricating low-friction sliding member provided with characteristics, such as low friction, wear resistance, seizure resistance and conformability, achieving a friction coefficient reduced to close to 0.1 without lubrication, and having durability, by forming a surface layer with secured adhesion using a steel material as a base material through a formation of a carbon diffusion layer on a steel surface by means of a method inexpensive and mass-producible as an industrial material. <P>SOLUTION: In a self-lubricating low-friction sliding member, carbon steel or low alloy steel which contains less than 4.5 wt.% of at least one carbide formation element selected among Cr, W, V, Nb and Mo, is used as a base material, and a surface layer containing iron carbides precipitated in particles or in a shape of a group of islands and free carbon existing to fill between the iron carbides is formed on a surface of the base material. Accordingly, the self-lubricating low-friction sliding member has higher resistance against friction, and also exerts excellent sliding characteristics due to solid lubricating effect of the free carbon existing to fill between the iron carbides. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
