摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate an oxygen occlusion amount of a catalyst disposed in an exhaust passage and to control an engine by using the estimated oxygen occlusion amount. <P>SOLUTION: A control device is provided, which determines whether or not a request for stopping an engine is brought during operating the engine, and when a request for stopping the engine is brought, the control device supplies "excess oxygen or an excess unburned substance" to a catalyst so as to control "an actual oxygen occlusion amount of the catalyst" to be "the maximum or minimum amount". At a time point when the oxygen occlusion amount of the catalyst is estimated to have reached "the maximum or minimum amount", the control device stops rotation of the engine. Further, the control device sets the estimated oxygen occlusion amount at the time of stopping the rotation of the engine, to a value based on a preacquired maximum oxygen occlusion amount or to "0" which is the minimum oxygen occlusion amount, and thereby, initializes the estimated oxygen occlusion amount. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
