The device has a housing (10) accommodating a biometric sensor (1) and presenting a sensor surface (2). The sensor surface detects contactless biometric features of a body part (3) arranged at a spacing from the sensor surface. Projection devices e.g. LEDs, are provided for projection of an optical pattern changing at the spacing to the sensor surface on a surface moved together with the body part. The projection devices are provided adjacent to the sensor surface and projects the optical pattern in the housing. The projection devices produce a light beam. An independent claim is also included for a method for contactless acquisition of biometric features of body parts.
