The method involves acquiring the impedance of an antenna (3) approximate to that of a metallic object, after performing the tuning process. The impedance of a transceiver is adjusted by an adjusting device (20), during the reading process of impedance of the antenna. The impedance of the antenna is adjusted by using a control circuit. The transponder reading process is performed simultaneously with the impedance matching process. An independent claim is included for reader for reading transponder arranged in metallic object.
