1,145,610. Moving band filter. CLARKSON INDUSTRIES, Inc. 8 Sept., 1967 [7 March, 1967], No. 41217/67. Heading B1D. In a filter for machine-tool coolant, in which a strip of paper or cloth filter medium is unwound from a supply roll (41) and carried along the upper run of endless belt 21, 22, sealing strips 43, (44) backed by spring metal 58 engage the margins of the medium, and any liquid which penetrates between the medium and strips runs into channels 61, (62), which slope down to a sump (66) at one end of the filter, and is kept separate from filtrate in tank 10. Belt 21, 22 comprises transverse wire coils 21, intermeshed together, some enclosing rods 22 which are joined to the endless chains 23, 24. A vacuum pump 46, which extracts air from tank 10 to assist the filtration, is driven by the same motor (31) as moves the belt, and motor (31) is controlled by a pressure switch in tank 10. The upper run of the belt has a concave form and is supported by rollers 28, and dirty liquid is delivered gently by a distributor (36) to form a pool 45 above the medium, which is discharged with solids into receptacle (42). Filtrate leaves tank 10 by outlet (37) to return to the machinetool. Liquid which has leaked under strips 43, (44) is discharged at (68). The belt 21, 22 has impervious resilient edge strips 59 (60) to back the filter medium under strips 43, (44). |
