<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an engine capable of correctly troubleshooting a particulate filter. <P>SOLUTION: The particulate filter 14 for collecting discharged particulates in an exhaust gas is provided in an discharge passage 6 of the engine 2, and a discharged particulate detecting means 24 for detecting an amount of the discharged particulates passing through the particulate filter 14 is provided on the downstream of the particulate filter 14 in the discharge passage 6. When the amount of the discharged particulates deposited in the discharged particulate detecting means 24 reaches a predetermined amount, the detecting means is reset to remove the deposited discharged particulates.
