The purpose of the present invention is to solve a problem caused by an opening formed on the chassis of a lighting device. A backlight device (lighting device) (12) of the present invention is provided with: an LED (light source) (17); a flat cable (flat type conductor) (22) connected with the LED (17); a chassis (14) housing the LED (17) and having an opening (14e); and a cable protection member (flat type conductor protection member) (23), positioned so as to pass through the opening (14e), forming an insertion hole (24a) for inserting the flat cable (22), and having a protection member (24) between the flat cable (22) and the opening (14e).
