Producing foam, comprises reacting a fluoroalkyl fluorophosphorane compound (I) with: (a) an inorganic base in an aqueous medium at a temperature of room temperature to 120[deg] C; or (b) a mixture of an inorganic base and water in presence of an organic solvent, separating the organic solvent, removing the solvent, and mixing the remaining reaction mixture with water under heating. Producing foam, comprises reacting a fluoroalkyl fluorophosphorane compound of formula ((R1) nPF 5 - n)) (I) with: (a) an inorganic base in an aqueous medium at a temperature of room temperature to 120[deg] C; or (b) a mixture of an inorganic base and water in presence of an organic solvent, separating the organic solvent, removing the solvent, and mixing the remaining reaction mixture with water under heating. R1 : 1-8C fluoroalkyl; and n : 1-3.
