The method involves reducing belt slack of a safety belt (3) in a variable manner during a buckling process according to a creation of the safety belt independence of a detected environmental temperature of a vehicle. The slack detected at a low ambient temperature is reduced than detected high ambient temperature. A belt lot reduction is performed by a retractor (3.3) propelled by an electromotor. The environmental temperature of the vehicle is determined by a temperature sensor connected with a control unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for belt slack reducing of a safety belt of a vehicle.
