<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming system having a DFE (Digital Front End Processor) that has a function of RIP (Raster Image Process) processing of printing data, and an image forming apparatus that performs printing based on raster data, which achieves shortening of printing standby time, prevention of useless ejection of blank paper, and prevention of intermittence and sudden stop of paper conveyance. <P>SOLUTION: A PDL (Page Description Language) data analysis part 213 of the DFE 11 analyzes the printing data to determine whether RIP processing load is high or low. The printing data of a page with high RIP processing load is subjected to RIP processing in a high-load page RIP part 214, and the raster data is fed to an MIC (Mechanism Interface Controller) 12. The printing data of a page with low RIP processing load is fed to the MIC 12, and subjected to the RIP processing in a low-load page RIP part 225. Two kinds of raster data are merged in a raster data merging part 222, and fed to the image forming apparatus 13.
